WORST Call of Duty launch in 14 years has just been accomplished by Activision and Sledgehammer, the Call of Duty Franchise saw its worst launch inside of the UK with the release of Vanguard.
On Sunday GamesIndustry.biz published the data for the Digital and Physical sales of Call of Duty: Vanguard, with Digital sales dropping by 44% from last year and Physical sales dropping 26% compared to Black Ops Cold Wars launch.
According to the data the the last Call of Duty game to sell fewer copies in its first week of launch was the Original Modern Warfare which was launched back on November 5th, 2007.
Worst Call of Duty launch
Although Vanguard had the worst Call of Duty launch in over 14 years inside of the UK, it is still the second most sold game this year just behind FIFA 22 which is usually the case every year.
This really goes to show just how dominant the Call of Duty franchise is in the gaming world, the fact that it can still be the second biggest launch of the year despite a 44% drop in sales is astonishing.

People who have gotten Vanguard have shared their opinions on the game, some being positive and some being negative.
What Caused This?
The data does make you wonder what could have caused such a huge drop in launch numbers, but here are some of the things that we think may have cause this bad launch in the UK.
One of the biggest things that could have attributed to the terrible launch is that the last game Black Ops Cold War wasn’t the greatest, with many people agreeing that it was one of the worst games in many years.
Another thing that may have attributed to the bad launch is the setting of Call of Duty: Vanguard, the WW2 setting doesn’t get many people excited to play, with dull settings and boring weapons many say.
One of the final reasons for this may just be because people have lost faith in the franchises ability to stop cheaters from playing the game, but hopefully once the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat fully releases it will bring back some faith.
Bad for Activision?
A lot of you may wonder if this will hurt Activisions bottom line or not, to put this simply I would say this is just a bump in the road and nothing that they are really stressing about.
Personally I think that they know that the reason for the worst Call of Duty launch is because of factors not necessarily pertaining to Vanguard specifically, but rather because of previous titles and cheaters.
The thing is, is that both of those things are both addressed, the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat will be fully launched on December 2nd and the previous titles shouldn’t really effect Vanguard in the long run.
I believe that as the year goes on more people will be getting the game, People are most likely holding out & didn’t pre order the game because they want to see what others think of it.
