Activision just recently announced The Haunting event coming to Call of Duty: Warzone & Black Ops Cold War, for Warzone they added a brand new LTM(Limited-Time Mode) called The Ghosts of Verdansk and people are getting annoyed of the mode and fast.
The main objective of The Ghosts of Verdansk game mode is to be the last operator left alive, to do this you need to defend yourself against other players that have either died and became a ghost that use a swipe attack or are still alive and can use weapons against you. Now that seems like it would be fun, but they also added a new “Fear Meter” mechanic to the game and this is where fans are starting to get annoyed.
What is a Fear Meter
Ghosts of Verdansk introduces a new meter known as Fear, located on the bottom left portion of the HUD. This meter ranges from 0 to 100 points, and every Operator starts as a fearless warrior with zero points of Fear.
Fear increases naturally over time and when the following events happen:
- Being shot at, being hit by enemy Equipment, or having their Killstreaks in the area
- Camping (AKA cowardice)
- Seeing dead bodies or Ghosts
- Having squadmates downed or eliminated
Outside of experiencing a hallucination, Fear also decreases when the following happens:
- Eliminating a player or Ghost
- Reviving a squadmate
- Completing a Contract
- Remaining within Sacred Ground… so long as it stays intact
The higher your Fear Meter gets in The Ghosts of Verdansk the more hallucinations and effects that will occur to you in the game.
Why Are People Annoyed
Although The Ghosts of Verdansk is supposed to be a Spooky Halloween event and people were expecting jump scares, people think Call of Duty has gone a bit far this year with how they do it.
As you can see from the tweet down below a well known figure in the scene known as Modern Warzone tweeted out his gripes with the game mode.
- Way to many hallucinations & effects on the screen
- Hallucinations are covering the screen and ruining gunfights
- Last circle is up to who has the least amount of hallucinations and not up to skill
if they removed the hallucinations this would be way better imo my friends aren’t very good so when they get it they stand no chance

Another popular creator HunterTV responded with a solution to how they could make The Ghosts of Verdansk that much less annoying and enjoyable for his friends who are bots.
What Do You Think
After reading about the Fear Meter and what it does during the final circle of Call of Duty: Warzone, do you think that they went too far this year and would you be annoyed as well if this happened to you at the end of the game during a gunfight?
